Humans have a mechanism to deal with dangerous situations. When our sympathetic nervous system is activated in the presence of a threat, our response is either freeze, flight, or fight. The first one might be appropriate when we're under the threat of an armed person, for instance, but escaping the situation would be even better. Unfortunately, in some occasions we have no option other than to engage, and, when we do, we need to be prepared for our fight response to be used as self-defense.
