These expandable shoes are for growing feet
Donating long-lasting shoes to those in need
LIFESTYLE Shoes
Kids grow quickly, and so do their feet. Because children from impoverished regions can't always afford new shoes—or even shoes at all, the charity called The Shoe That Grows is creating and donating expandable footwear.
Children who go without shoes are vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases and parasites that can cause illness and even death, according to the website. When schools can be far away from many villages, having a pair of shoes can determine whether or not a child can go to school.
In rural locations, it is rare that a child even gets one pair of donated shoes. Though even the fortunate ones tend to grow out of them quite quickly, leaving them exposed once more.
The Shoes That Grows aims to solve this. So far, the organization has donated 128,538 pairs of long-lasting shoes in 94 countries around the world.
