The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recently added 24 new properties to its World Heritage Site list. These range from a gold mine in Japan and a national park in Brazil to a palace in Germany and a Roman road in Italy. In addition, two sites already enjoying UNESCO protection have been extended.
