From Ukraine to Gaza
In 2022, an eight-year crisis in eastern Ukraine became a major conflict in just a few weeks thanks to a full-scale invasion.
Within the first 24 hours of fighting, the UN reported 240 civilian casualties, including 34 deaths. Since then, the violence hasn't slowed down, with intense fighting spreading across the country.
In less than a year, Ukraine became one of the world's largest refugee and humanitarian crises, with 14.6 million people in need of some form of assistance.
Since the escalation of the conflict began last October, over 40,000 people have died in the Gaza Strip and more than 90,000 others have been injured.
Some 1.9 million people have been forced to leave their homes. That's a staggering 85% of the total population of Gaza.
The Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, and Israel's subsequent attack on Gaza have taken the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict into an awful new chapter.
Over a year later, nearly half of the country's population require some form of humanitarian assistance, and the situation shows no signs of improving.

Around 18.2 million people will require humanitarian assistance in 2024, including five million children under the age of five.
