Kauai provided a suitable stand-in for Peru and the film's opening shots, which introduced cinema audiences around the world to Steven Spielberg's archaeology professor and itinerant adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford).

'From Here to Eternity' (1953) -

Oahu was used as the location for this classic movie, a wartime romantic drama set during the months leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Burt Lancaster and Frank Sinatra are among the lead actors.

'Blue Hawaii' (1961) -

The first of three movies Elvis Presley made in Hawaii, the other two being 'Girls! Girls! Girls!' (1962) and 'Paradise, Hawaiian Style' (1966). 'Blue Hawaii' was filmed on Kauai.

'Pearl Harbor' (2001) -

A largely fictionalized account of the December 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, this romantic war drama stars Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, and Kate Beckinsale. To achieve authenticity, the producers used current naval facilities on Hawaii.

'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' (2011) -

The warm cyan-blue waters of Hawaii became a buccaneer's playground for Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and his crew in this particular installment of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise. Interior island shots took place on Kauai, doubling up for a voodoo-cursed island location in the Caribbean.

The planet called Ashlar depicted in this Tim Burton-directed movie, the sixth in the 'Planet of the Apes' franchise, is otherwise known as Big Island, officially named Hawaii.

'Point Break' (1991) -

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow and starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves, 'Point Break' includes some awesome surfing footage, which was filmed on Kauai and for which both actors learned to surf.

'Snakes on a Plane' (2006) -

Samuel L. Jackson's mid-air battle with the errant serpents begins shortly after boarding a plane in Honolulu. The action also takes place on Oahu.

'Soul Surfer' (2011) -

AnnaSophia Robb stars in this biographical drama as professional surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm to a shark in 2003 while surfing off Tunnels Beach, Kauai. Hamilton eventually returned to competitive surfing.

'Tears of the Sun' (2003) -

'South Pacific' (1958) -

'Six Days, Seven Nights' (1998) -

Harrison Ford and Anne Heche star in this adventure comedy that, while set on an unnamed deserted island in the South Pacific, was actually filmed on Kauai.

'Papillon' (1973) -

Steve McQueen’s famous cliff-jumping scene at the end of 'Papillon' took place from the cliffs in Maui. The location served as the coast of Devil’s Island, the infamous penal colony in French Guiana where the film is set.

Besides those scenes filmed off the coast of Hawaii, the final scene in Kevin Costner’s post-apocalyptic epic was shot in the Waipio Valley on Big Island.

Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra star in this adventure, a story that deals with issues of prejudice and morality. It’s set on a fictional island in the South Pacific but was actually filmed on Maui.

'Waikiki Wedding' (1937) -

Set in the Territory of Hawaii, 'Waikiki Wedding' stars Bing Crosby. The film was actually shot on Oahu rather than Big Island, the actual location of the Honolulu neighborhood of Waikiki.
