This May 13, a strong 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit Campi Flegrei, a highly seismic area in the vicinity of Naples, Italy.
According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the quake was reported to be at a depth of two kilometers (1.2 miles) off the coast of Pozzuoli, a city located close to Naples.
It was not the first time Campi Flegrei was hit by an earthquake of such a high intensity this year–there were two other occurrences earlier in May and March, which also were the strongest quakes in the region in the last 40 years.
