Dame Maggie Smith, one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation, has passed away. The news was shared by her sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin. "She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September," read their statement. "An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother."
The recipient of numerous accolades, including the prestigious "Triple Crown of Acting," comprising Academy, Tony, and Emmy awards, Smith triumphed on the big screen, stage, and in television. In her late eighties, the British actress won over a new audience with her signature role as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham in the hit show 'Downton Abbey' and its movie spin-offs. Meanwhile, she continued to tread the boards on stage and remained active in charitable fundraising work.
