184 killed in Haiti as a result of gang violence
This brings the death total for the year to 5,000

The United Nations human rights chief has announced that at least 184 people were killed in the capital of Haiti over the weekend, due to a rise in gang violence.
The deaths have been attributed to violence evoked by the leader of a powerful gang in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince. The situation has been escalating since November when the interim prime minister was dismissed and replaced. As a result, over 40,000 people have been displaced—with over half of them being children.
The UN estimates that gangs now hold control over around 85% of the capital and that approximately 5,000 deaths have occurred so far this year as a result. But these are just the numbers for Haiti—sadly, gang violence is still a reality that affects people all over the world
