40 monkeys are on the loose from a South Carolina research facility
Monkeys and other animals who are in trouble with the law

On the evening of November 7, 40 macaque and capuchin monkeys escaped from a research facility in South Carolina. Alpha Genesis is a center that has been specifically designed to carry out clinical trials on monkeys to find treatments for disorders such as brain disease.
The facility is based on Morgan Island, which has become known as Monkey Island due to the colony of 3,500 monkeys living there. It is not known what trial the 40 that escaped were taking part in, and, therefore, authorities are still unsure whether or not they are contaminated or harmful. As such, a police search is taking place, traps have been laid, and residents have been warned to stay indoors.
But this isn’t the first time that animals have found themselves in trouble with the law. Did you know that in 2019 a rooster was put on trial in France? Or that a parrot was once arrested in India? Click on to discover these and more bizarre animal arrests from around the world.
