The Brandenburg Gate is one of the most recognized monuments in Germany, and, indeed, Europe. Located in Berlin, the triumphal arch has a tumultuous history. Completed in 1791, this neoclassical masterpiece has survived two global conflicts, and served as a physical and ideological barrier under Soviet rule during the Cold War.
