All music is an evolution out of one thing and into another, and genres come in and out of popularity as sounds shift and diverge. The era of disco seems particularly short-lived, but the often-mocked genre gave way to electronic dance music, house music, hip-hop, new wave, and more.
Disco, as both a genre of music and as a subculture, emerged as a response to the overwhelming rock sounds of the '60s. Now, however, disco is seeing the light once again, and the light is glittering off the walls! It's topping the charts, it's infiltrating people's closets, and it's manifesting in new trends across social media. Yes, it appears disco is back!
Click through this gallery to see why, some 50 years later, disco is making a comeback, and check out the best looks and sounds that have come out of its revival so far.
