'Seoul Town Road' and other crazy cross-genre collabs
The hottest country rap song just added K-pop to its weirdness
© Getty Images
The music industry keeps getting weirder and weirder. 'Old Town Road,' a country-rap track from 19-year-old Lil Nas X, has spent 16 weeks in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and is probably the biggest song in the world right now. The song combines country lyrics and banjo-playing with a thumping hip-hop beat.
Originally, it hit the Hot Country Songs chart, before Billboard decided to remove it from the list. This sparked outrage online, with many saying that the decision was racially-motivated. Frustrated, Lil Nas X reached out to Billy Ray Cyrus for a new remix which put the song atop the Hot Country Songs chart.
But the success of the track doesn't end there. Lil Nas recently recruited RM, a member of the K-pop sensation BTS, for another remix, which they called 'Seoul Town Road.'
It isn't the first cross-genre hit, as artists have always tried to test their creative limits. From Avicii's anthem with Aloe Blacc, to Aerosmith's rap collab with RUN-DMC, crazy cross-genre collabs are nothing new. Click through to check out the best musical crossovers ever.
