Principal photography for Paul Greengrass' 'Green Zone' began in Spain, at the disused Los Alcázares air base in Murcia. The war drama stars Matt Damon.

'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' (2008) -

Woody Allen's comedy-drama takes place in Barcelona as well as in Avilés and Oviedo. Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, and Rebecca Hall head the cast.

'The Machinist' (2004) -

This psychological thriller starring Christian Bale was filmed in its entirety in and around Barcelona. The picture is noted for Bale's drastic weight loss in preparation for the role, when the actor lost 28 kg (62 pounds) and dropped to 54 kg (120 pounds) before filming.

'The Others' (2001) -

Palacio de los Hornillos in Las Fraguas, Cantabria, and locations in Madrid and northern Spain were used to film this horror movie, which stars Nicole Kidman.

'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' (1966) -

Italian film director Sergio Leone had already made 'A Fistful of Dollars' (1964) and 'For a Few Dollars More' (1965) when he cast Clint Eastwood for a third time and concluded the trilogy with this epic Western, shot mostly in Spain. The iconic graveyard finale was filmed near Burgos, in Castile and León.

'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' (1989) -

The Tabernas Desert in Spain's Almeria province served as the location for the chase scene where Indiana (Harrison Ford) is pursued on horseback by a tank. Parts of the movie were also filmed in Andalusia.

Cadiz is where scenes for 'Die Another Day' were filmed, the Spanish city doubling as Havana, Cuba. Pierce Brosnan is James Bond, with Halle Berry as NSA agent Giacinta "Jinx" Johnson.

'Lawrence of Arabia' (1962) -

British director David Lean's epic historical drama starring Peter O'Toole made full use of southern Spain's desert-like terrain. Scenes were shot in the Almeria region, with the Sierra Nevada mountains filling in for Qasr Azraq (Jordan), Lawrence's winter headquarters.

'Doctor Zhivago' (1965) -

Lean also chose to film large parts of 'Doctor Zhivago' in Spain, at locations that included Campo de Gómara, near Soria, and the Moncayo mountain range in Aragon.

'The Last Run' (1971) -

George C. Scott is the aging career criminal in semi-retirement who is hired for one last job, to drive an escaped killer and his girlfriend across Spain and into Portugal.

Calle Buzones, a street in Toledo, provided one of the locations for Roman Polanski's neo-noir horror thriller, which stars Johnny Depp.

'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer' (2006) -

Though set in France, a lot of scenes in 'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer' were shot in Catalonia, specifically in Girona and Figures. The streets of Barcelona stood in for those of Paris. Ben Whishaw is the homicidal olfactory genius.

'Robin and Marian' (1976) -

Pamplona and the wider Navarra province in northern Spain stood in for the medieval English countryside for this movie, based on the Robin Hood legend and starring Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn.

'Savage Grace' (2007) -

Set in the '70s against the scenic backdrop of Barcelona and Sitges in Spain's Catalonia region, 'Savage Grace' is based on a true story and stars Julianne Moore, Stephen Dillane, and Eddie Redmayne.

The battle scenes you see in Stanley Kubrick's 'Spartacus' were filmed on a vast plain outside Madrid. Other shooting locations included the countryside near Guadalajara and Iriépal.

'Pandora and the Flying Dutchman' takes place in the fictitious small Spanish port of Esperanza, but was actually filmed in Tossa de Mar near Girona on Spain's Costa Brava. The romantic drama stars James Mason and Ava Gardner.

'The Sun Also Rises' (1957) -

This film adaptation of the 1926 Ernest Hemingway novel of the same name stars Tyrone Power, Ava Gardner, Mel Ferrer, and Errol Flynn and was partly filmed in Spain, specifically at Pamploma during the famous "Running of the Bulls."
