And here's another fun fact: the late Sonny Chiba, the Japanese actor who played Hattori Hanzo, had actually played the same character multiple times in an '80s TV show called 'Shadow Warriors.'

Sound designer Ben Burtt used an old projector for the hum. As for the crackling sounds, he captured them when a microphone came in contact with an old TV tube. Burtt mixed the sounds, and voila!

Gunnar Hansen (the actor) had a chunk of steak and fake blood for the scene, but no one thought that the chainsaw blades would get extremely hot. The scene looks extremely realistic because the chainsaw actually burned Hansen's leg!
