The European nation has contributed to the history of taxis. The taximeter was invented by a German engineer named Friedrich Wilhelm Gustav Bruhn in 1891. Cabs in Germany are light ivory.

Cabs in Australia are mostly white or silver, but you will also find other colors. The vast majority are sedans.

The color of taxis varies across Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro you will find yellow cabs (pictured), but in Sao Paulo, for instance, cabs are white.

The Southern European nation has different cabs depending on where you are in the country. In Barcelona for instance, taxis are black with yellow doors.

You'll recognize cabs in Italy by their "Taxi" sign on top. Some of the most popular choices when it comes to carmakers include Fiat, Mercedes-Benz, and Ford.

Taxis in Ireland don't have a particular color, but they all have a roof sign with their license number.

In Malaysia, taxis are also known as teksi. They have a distinctive white and red color scheme. The Proton Saga Iswara is the most popular car used.

In Brussels, you'll find that all taxis are black with a yellow chequered stripe on the side.

Most taxis in Indonesia are blue because the first taxi company to operate in Jakarta, Bluebird, used the color.

Portugal -

Portuguese cabs, mostly in big cities, are traditionally black with a green roof. This changes if you head to the islands. For example, in Madeira, cabs are yellow with a blue line.

Regulated cabs in Russia are yellow, but there aren't as many as one would think. This is because there are many other vehicles operating illegally as so-called "gipsy cabs," particularly in Moscow.
