The enormous energy needs of artificial intelligence data centers had led to the prospect of mothballed nuclear power stations being recommissioned to meet electricity demand. But the idea has also prompted some tech experts to examine the feasibility of AI actually running the operations of a nuclear power facility, an idea that has alarmed the anti-nuclear movement. One of the facilities being considered for reactivation is the currently dormant Three Mile Island nuclear generating station in Pennsylvania, scene of America's worst nuclear accident in 1979. So, is AI about to put more pressure on an already beleaguered industry?
