The history of facial hair among American presidents
From mustaches to beards

Of all the 45 men who served as presidents of the United States, only 12 of them had any kind of facial hair. John Quincy Adams was the first president to rock facial hair (sideburns, in his case), and the last was William Howard Taft (with his magnificent mustache). While facial hair fell out of favor over the years, particularly among presidential candidates, some of America's greatest presidents wouldn't look the same without it!
In this gallery, we look back at those presidents who rocked sideburns, mustaches, and beards. Click on to discover them all.
