Cupid, the winged god of desire, is often depicted as a cherubic infant drawing on a bow ready to shoot an arrow into an unsuspecting heart. But this image is dependent on whether you chose to indulge in Greek or Roman mythology. The Greek god of love and sex was a tall, muscular young man with film star looks. The Romans, however, chose to fashion their counterpart as a cute but rather chubby little boy, albeit someone equally adept with a bow. Yet despite his disadvantage in the looks department, it's Cupid who's prevailed. The ruddy-cheeked youngster with the mischievous grin is the guy we all know and love as the Valentine's Day poster boy. And it's Cupid who's had a pair of women's lips named after him.
