People may dislike you for numerous reasons -

People have all sorts of biases and a million reasons not to like you. From cultural to personal reasons, or simply bigotry, there are just too many factors that can dictate the dislike of someone else, yourself included.

It’s not always your fault -

Now, let’s take a look at some of the reasons why people might not like you, that aren’t really your fault.

You’re more successful -

Not only are you successful (according to the other person’s success metric), but you are actually more successful than the person who dislikes you.

You remind them of themselves -

It’s not your fault that a person dislikes you because you remind them of his/her own traits.

You remind them of their failures -

This often happens when two people are at the same level, but one gets ahead in life (e.g. you both had the same position but only you got promoted).

They don’t have what you have -

Be it money, a career, a relationship, a family, or something as simple as an object or Instagram followers!

You’re more good-looking -

You could be more good-looking and the person sees you as a threat to his/her relationship or potential relationship.

You’re more clever -

Maybe you’re smarter, and the person feels threatened by that at work or in another setting where you can use your intelligence.

You think for yourself -

Some people dislike those who have the capacity to think independently and are not easily manipulated.

You are honest -

Maybe you are not afraid to tell the truth. Speaking your mind can get you a few haters, that’s for sure.

They have preconceptions -

Sometimes, for whatever reason, people have preconceptions about you. These can be based on a number of things, from the way you dress, to the way you speak, to where you come from–the list goes on.

You’re generous -

Some people may feel bad because you’re just too nice. It reminds them that they're not.

They like you -

Yes, it may be paradoxical, but maybe the person just feels attracted to you and hates you for it!

They are serial haters -

Sometimes people just need attention, and the way they manage to be heard is by disliking other people, and being vocal about it.

They are bigots -

They just dislike you based on their own prejudices and biases. They may be racist, sexist, homophobic—you name it.

It might not be as bad as you think -

You may feel like people don’t like you, but this can be a reflection of something else going on in your life. Paranoia, for instance, regardless of why you get it, can make you believe everyone hates you.

Loneliness may trigger such feelings as well, which again, may not correspond to reality.

It might be your fault -

Sometimes, though, it is your fault that people don’t like you. But what do you do to ruffle people’s feathers, really? Let’s take a look at some of the possibilities.

You lie -

No one likes a liar. Sure, we all lie, but if you’re constantly lying, do so about serious things, become flaky and lie about why you did or didn’t do something, then it’s on you.

You brag -

Bragging can be really annoying, especially because most people do so to look cool in front of other people. Are you guilty of this? If so, know that there is no need to show off all the time, name-drop, and the like.

You know it all -

Or at least you think and act like you know it all. That’s not only pretentious, it’s plain irritating.

People don’t feel safe around you -

Maybe you behave irresponsibly often and put yourself and those around you at risk. If people don’t feel safe around you, they will avoid your company.

You’re selfish -

If you only think of yourself, and always put yourself first, regardless of the situation, people will start to notice, and might not trust you or, indeed, like you.

You use people -

Being manipulative is a surefire way to make enemies. If you use people for your benefit, then you shouldn’t be surprised that people don’t really like you.

You don’t listen -

If you don’t listen to what people have to say, how can you expect them to like you? This is also true for when you don’t allow other people to talk.

You’re very needy and clingy -

You’re basically an energy vampire that desperately needs attention, and the way you found to get it is by playing the victim card.

You’re spoiled -

No one likes a spoiled person. You can be spoiled in many ways, and some people just won’t be able to relate to you because of this.

You’re judgmental and closed-minded -

If you’re judgmental and closed-minded, then you surely saw it coming, didn’t you? Everyone is different, and just because people are not aligned with your values, it doesn’t mean they are bad. If you disrespect other people, they might just do the same.

We all feel a bit lazy sometimes, but being so the vast majority of time is not cool. Not for you, nor for anyone else around you.

Even though you have money! People might just not like the fact that you are so stingy.
