That is not the case for sologamists, i.e. one who marries oneself. Sologamy has been on the rise in recent years, with a real boom in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly among women.

Self-marriage is not a binding contract in the same way as a traditional marriage. There is no tax break, and sologamists are free to marry again without having to divorce themselves.

Sologamous marriage is rather an expression of self-love, a commitment by these women to love and accept themselves for as long as they may live.

One reason, although likely this doesn’t drive all sologamists, is that an acknowledgement of self-love helps to attract the love of others.

People who marry themselves are also much less likely to regret the decision later. As we all know, many women in traditional marriages wind up regretting that decision.

Self-wed women also grow in independence. By marrying themselves, they learn to depend only on themselves and do not need another person to complete them.

There are a number of famous women who have embraced sologamy in recent years. Many of them emphasize that a self-wedding does not negate the possibility of other relationships, nor should another relationship negate the importance of self-marriage.
