Kiav has reported that Ukraine has launched its “most massive” attack on Russia so far, striking several targets deep inside the country, some of which were up to 1,100km (700 miles) from the border.
Ukraine's SBU intelligence agency has called the overnight attack a "painful blow" to Russia. A refinery, several ammunition depots, two industrial plants, and a chemical plant responsible for producing explosives were targeted. A huge drone attack was also reported in the western region of Saratov. Russia has vowed to respond to the attack.
This push from Ukraine comes in the run-up to President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, who has said he will meet with President Vladimir Putin once he returns to the White House.
The war between Russia and Ukraine began when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 4, 2022. For a refresher on how things got here, click through this gallery for an overview of the war so far.
