On January 28, a passenger plane crashed in northern Colombia, killing all 15 people on board, state-run airline Satena declared. Contact with the aircraft was lost 11 minutes before it was due to land in Ocaña near the Venezuelan border.
The official passenger list includes lawmaker Diógenes Quintero Amaya Carlos Salcedo, a candidate in upcoming congressional elections.
The wreckage was located in a mountainous area, where a search operation is underway with support from Colombia’s armed forces, in a territory that includes National Liberation Army (ELN)-controlled areas.
Indeed, even with ever-improving technology, we seem to have constant grim reminders of the catalog of air disasters recorded in the annals of commercial aviation. Sadly, few survive a plane crash, such is the destructive force of an event of this nature. And there have been some truly awful air accidents across the world.
