On December 1, Russia published its budget for 2025. It revealed that President Vladimir Putin had approved a record amount for national defense as resources are drained amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The new budget will be around US$126 billion (13.5 trillion rubles), which is about $28 billion (3 trillion rubles) higher than the budget for 2024 and amounts to a third of the total government spending for the entire year. This makes it the highest budget for defense spending in Russian history.

Russia has significantly increased its military spending since the war began, and the Russian economy has taken a hit, with interest rates at their highest in decades.
