Plant a garden - Starting a garden with your children not only gets them outside, but also teaches them a sense of responsibility. The project of keeping a garden is never finished, so you can do it with your kids again and again.

Children’s den - Grab an old sheet and a rope for some quality fort-building time. Children love to make their own hideouts. If you help to build it, they might even allow you in!

Walk, run, and bike - It sounds super simple, but a great outdoor activity is just enjoying nature. Hop on a bike and ride around in nature, or even just walk.

Picnic - If the weather permits, make a picnic lunch together at home and find a nice spot outside to eat it. Picnics in the sun will always hold a special place in your child’s memory.

Scavenger hunt -

All children will rally at the sound of a scavenger hunt and a prize. Tell them they have to find things in nature such as pine cones and dandelions to get them prancing about in nature all afternoon.

Geocaching - You may not have heard of it, but it is a great activity to get your kids into. With GPS devices or an app, you have to use coordinates to find the hidden treasures in nature. It is literally a world wide treasure hunt for all ages.

Parks - On a rainy day, go in the guide books and on the internet with your kids and choose some cool parks. Every time the sun comes out, try and cross one off your outdoor bucket list.

Bugs - There is nothing as fascinating as bugs when you're a kid. Give your children some tubs and magnifying glasses and send them on a grand bug hunt.

Obstacle course - Challenge them with a crazy obstacle course. In your garden or in a park, bring all sorts of things like hula hoops, tires, and the like. Set them up and create a course for your kids and their friends.

Bubbles! - In a sheet pan, create a soapy mixture and use a large bubble wand to make a ginormous bubble for your children to chase and pop. Maybe have a competition to see who can make the biggest!

Sports - It's good for them and for you. Get outside and learn a new sport together like volleyball, basketball, or even just some extreme catch.

Water -

There are so many games you can play with water when it is hot out. Try opening up garbage bags, laying them out in your garden, and covering them with soap and water. There you have a homemade slide!

Chalk art - If you have a quiet street by your house or a backyard, your children can turn it into a canvas. Get some chalk and you can spend all afternoon outdoors making beautiful works of art.

Climbing - Try and find a safe place in nature where you can all go climbing. Children love to climb things, and it's not bad for adults to get out of their comfort zone too!

Eating -

Put a table in your garden and ask your kids to extravagantly decorate it with flowers and such. Then have a wonderful meal together outdoors.

Little boat - Try making a boat at home from paper or, better yet, from wood. Then find a body of water and see if it works!

Big boat - Try and go on a boat ride for a day if possible. Whether it is sailing or just a rowboat, kids will have endless fun.

Play lava - Place large pieces of paper on the ground and set your children challenges they have to complete without touching the grass (lava).

Collection - Go out into nature and try to find some beautiful things together that you can put in a scrapbook.

Clouds - Lie down with your kids to gaze at the clouds or stars. Try and make up some fun stories about the shapes and constellations.

Bonfire -

Nothing is as much fun as s'mores. Get your children to collect firewood and create a nice bonfire that you can all sit around together.

Music - It might give you a headache, but giving your child a small instrument and having a jam in the sunshine is a fun and creative activity.

Theater - Create an outdoor theater with a sheet and put on a performance with your children. You can perform it to the rest of the family, or even to the neighbors.

Pick-your-own -

Do some research into the farms near you and see if any of them allow you to pick your fruits and vegetables directly. It's a really fun way to spend an afternoon.

Camping - If you want to have fun with your kids in nature, camping is always a good way to go. It does not have to include a tough hike–some marshmallows and spooky stories will do the trick.

Photography - If you have a camera or at least a phone with a camera, take it out with you on a photography walk. You and your children can try and spot cool things to capture in nature.

Litter picking - It's good for the environment, and for children it often becomes a fun challenge. Do some good to your community and pick up some litter in a park together.

Lemonade stand -

Get some lemons and sugar and make some sweet lemonade to sell on a hot day. Your kids will love playing the shopkeeper, especially if they can keep the profits!
