In the modern age, we think nothing of clicking "send" to zap an email out into the ether. And yet it was only some 150 years ago that post was being delivered by horse-drawn carriage. The first airmail service was inaugurated in 1918, and it wasn't until the 1930s that reliable mail sorting and distribution platforms were invented.
