In Christianity, exorcism is the ritual of casting out or expelling demons. Demonic possession and the work of the exorcist has been recorded as far back as the mid-13th century, but the first official guidelines for exorcism were actually established in 1614. In the four hundred years since, numerous cases of people seemingly possessed by evil spirits have come to light. Some of these exorcisms are truly notorious.
