Yayoi Kusama, one of the world’s most celebrated and commercially successful contemporary artists, has passed away at the age of 97. Her death was announced on August 27 in a statement posted on her official website, which said Kusama died at a hospital in Tokyo on August 14.
Though her work involves painting, sculpture, film, and performance, she gained massive international fame through her immersive Infinity Mirror Room installations, quickly becoming one of the biggest-selling female artists in the world despite nearly being written out of history some years ago.
