An avalanche struck a base camp on Nepal’s Mount Yalung Ri, located at 4,900 meters (approx. 16,000 feet), on the morning of November 3. The disaster killed seven people—five foreign climbers and two Nepali guides—and injured others, officials said. Rescuers have recovered two bodies and are searching for the remaining five, believed to be buried under snow. Eight survivors were airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment as worsening weather hampers rescue efforts.
The deadly incident highlights the growing dangers faced by mountaineers in Nepal, where unpredictable weather and unstable snow conditions continue to pose severe risks to climbers each year.
