Earth Overshoot Day is the day each year in which human consumption of Earth's resources exceeds Earth's ability to regenerate those same resources. Less than 40 years ago, humans were consuming just about equal to what Earth could regenerate in a given year. However, over the past few decades this day has become increasingly and terrifyingly earlier in the calendar year. If we don't begin to take drastic steps towards sustainability, we will continue burning through Earth's resources at an alarming rate.
In the following gallery, discover the day in which EOD has fallen over the past 48 years according to data compiled by the website Earth Overshoot Day.
