The world's love of carbs has always been seen as a relatively new thing. Cavemen weren’t eating pizza, right? However, a new study has revealed that our love of carbs dates all the way back to prehistoric times.

Humans have a gene called AMY1 that produces an enzyme that enables us to digest all of our favorite carbs - including pasta, rice, bread, and even potatoes. However, a new study that was released just last week revealed that this gene was developed hundreds of thousands of years ago, which means it predates our species. This research is further backed up by recent findings that revealed that cave people loved carbs too! They may not have eaten fries but they did used to roast tubers to go with their meat.

This isn’t the only myth related to carbs though. There are many different types of carbohydrates, and some of them are actually very good for you. So, take a look through this gallery to separate fact from fiction and see what the real effects of carbs are.
