Billie Eilish, who achieved global fame at a young age, only turned 21 in 2022. As a result, some expressed criticism of her relationship with alt-rock singer Jesse Rutherford, who is ten years her senior and leads the band The Neighbourhood. In October 2022, their romance was witnessed by many, as they were seen kissing and holding hands in Los Angeles. Eilish further validated their relationship on Halloween when she posted a series of photos, including one of the couple, on Instagram. In addition to their age difference, some fans were quick to highlight that the pair had actually encountered each other years earlier, when Eilish was sixteen and Rutherford was twenty-six. Nevertheless, Eilish and Rutherford did not take the situation too seriously. They playfully responded to the media attention by embracing Halloween costumes that emphasized their age disparity: Eilish dressed up as a baby, while Rutherford skillfully transformed himself into an elderly man using prosthetics. However, in May 2023, the couple decided to end their relationship.

When Russell Crowe appeared with his girlfriend Britney Theriot in October 2022, people were curious about the age difference between the then 58-year-old actor and his youthful-looking partner. However, when Australian outlet News.com referred to Theriot as Crowe's "31-year-old girlfriend," Crowe felt the need to clarify. "Far be it for me to promote this sort of vacuous malarkey posited as some kind of news, but…without being unchivalrous and with her express permission, Britney is 39 years old," Crowe tweeted. To be fair, a 19-year age gap is indeed less eye-popping than a 27-year gap. The couple got engaged in 2024.
