Celebrities are often made famous through their work, which is presented to audiences with their lines and lyrics already memorized and fully edited in production. Stars, therefore, seem completely polished to us, which is why it's all the more fun and surprising when they make royally cringeworthy errors—especially in high-stakes environments like awards ceremonies.
Whether it's trouble with the teleprompter, backstage envelope mix-ups, or just a simple error of judgment made on the spot, these mistakes have been cemented in televised history, and they usually end up in embarrassing moments for the other celebrities involved as well, like accepting illegitimate awards, or even ones that don't exist!
Avril Lavigne was so focused on introducing Canadian-Punjabi singer AP Dhillon at the Juno Awards on March 13 that she didn't notice when a topless woman appeared on the stage behind her. The woman had "SAVE THE GREEN BELT" written on her bare back, which is an apparent reference to a controversial development plan by the Ontario government. Lavigne only noticed when a security guard approached the stage, and then she had no patience for the protester. "Get the f—k off," the singer said, then with a little smile, "Get the f—k off b—h!" to applause. When Lavigne later won the TikTok Juno fan choice award, she joked in her speech, "Now nobody try anything this time. I'll f—k a b—h up," which was surely a nightmare for the show's producers.
