When an actor takes on a role, they try to get inside the mind of the character. How would that person walk or talk? They have to know them so well that they can be them, in every way. This is the challenge of their craft, but it's an even bigger challenge if they have to enter the mind of someone truly sick...
Many of us get a thrill from watching true crime documentaries. There's a sense of danger from that very slight proximity to a killer. Imagine the effect it would have on a person to research a murderer intensively with the goal of understanding and embodying them?
It seems that Leonardo DiCaprio is soon to embark on such a journey. His production company is producing a new movie about the infamous Jonestown massacre that occurred in 1978, when cult leader Jim Jones orchestrated that fatal poisoning of almost a thousand of his followers. DiCaprio is also in talks about taking on the role of Jones himself. It wouldn't be the first time DiCaprio has played a real-life criminal, but it would certainly be his darkest role to date.
