CELEBRITY Controversy

Time is set to announce Donald Trump as this year’s “Person of the Year” on Thursday, acknowledging his significant influence on global affairs—whether positive or negative. According to a source familiar with the plans, Trump will mark the occasion by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

Every year, Time magazine publishes a special issue with their choice for Person of the Year, accompanied by an iconic cover photo. In recent years, this honorable title has been given to the likes of Greta Thunberg, Barack Obama, and Pope Francis. However, the recipients are not always what you'd call honorable. To say some of them have been controversial is really underselling it!

Since its inception in 1927, the Person of the Year title has been awarded to more than 100 individuals or groups. Curious to know who stirred the most debate? Explore this gallery to uncover some of the most controversial selections in Time's history.
