Authorities have confirmed that the driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on January 1 was an active-duty and highly decorated US special forces soldier who took his own life before the blast.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Matthew Alan Livelsberger from Colorado Springs, Colorado, rented the vehicle over 800 miles (more than 1,285 km) away before traveling to the Nevada hotel on the morning of the explosion. Before the blast, he fatally shot himself in the head. There is still no known motive for the soldier's actions.
The Cybertruck explosion involved fireworks, gas tanks, and camping fuel connected to a detonation system. The FBI is investigating whether the incident was an act of terrorism. Elon Musk assisted the investigation by providing Tesla charging station footage to help identify the driver’s movements.
While the incident itself may not directly reflect on Musk, it comes at a time when he remains a polarizing figure. From his meteoric entrepreneurial rise to his recent controversies as a public figure, Musk's life and career continue to captivate—and divide—public opinion. This gallery delves into Musk's controversial life and career up to this point, exploring his successes and setbacks.
