Cristiano Ronaldo has reached billionaire status, becoming the first soccer player ever to do so, according to financial data compiled by Bloomberg and released on October 8.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which ranks the world’s wealthiest individuals by net worth, has included the 40-year-old Portuguese international and Al-Nassr star for the first time. Bloomberg estimates Ronaldo’s fortune at US$1.4 billion, factoring in his career earnings, business ventures, and endorsement deals.
Cristiano Ronaldo is widely considered to be one of the best soccer players of his generation, if not of all time, and even at 40 he shows no signs of slowing down. Whether celebrated as a soccer icon or criticized for his flamboyant lifestyle, Ronaldo remains a force impossible to ignore. CR7 is not only successful on the field—he also lives a striking life outside of it. A life, however, that is certainly not free of scandal.
