Molesting her sibling - In her book, Lena also describes incidents in her childhood in which she had touched and examined her sibling's private parts. When the book was published, she received various accusations that she had molested her sibling.

Boyfriend - Lena and boyfriend, Jack, publicly announced that they wouldn't get married until gay marriage was legal in the US. When the law was passed, she tweeted Jack to "get on it" and propose. Needless to say, things went downhill after that.

Retouching - Lena Dunham accused Tentaciones magazine of retouching a photo of her, posting a comment on Instagram about how the magazine was being dishonest with their readers. However, it came out that the magazine hadn't actually done any digital editing.

The orange sleeping bag - On June 2, people are supposed to wear orange to symbolize National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Her attempt to support the cause was viewed as her mocking it.

Baby ethnicity - When Lena's character in 'Girls,' Hannah, has a baby, he is born with very dark complexion. This churned up controversy over the fact that Hannah's skin color was very fair and the baby's father was Pakistani.

Racism - There are backlogs of racist tweets from Dunham on Twitter. One of the most controversial was a tweet in which she asked followers if she should be worried that the man walking behind her was a rapist, following it up by saying, "nevermind, he's Asian."

Insensitivity - When students at her alma mater, Oberlin College, accused the school of cultural appropriation for serving sushi in the dining hall, Dunham backed up the students. This caused a backlash, as it seemed they were ignoring the fact that most of the food we eat is modified from other cultures.
