However, Michigan is even more famous for its innumerous ghost stories.

▲The psychiatric hospital opened its doors in 1885 under the direction of Dr. James Decker Munson.

▲As the first supervisor of the hospital, Munson thought that therapy was equal to beauty.

▲Dr. Munson prohibited the use of straitjackets.

In order to transport the patients comfortably while also making sure there was no contact between them, they used an underground tunnel.

There are reports that a 'portal to Hell' was discovered inside one of the underground passageways.

▲A few years later, the hospital started treating people with drug addictions.

▲It also treated patients that were victims of disease outbreaks, such as tuberculosis, diphtheria, polio and the flu.

▲The hospital even broadened their care facility to include the elderly.

▲Despite Munson's theories, there is evidence that experiments were performed on humans.
