China has 10 volcanoes, including Changbaishan (also known as Tianchi or Paektu), located in the Heilongjiang province, and Tengchong, a volcanic field in the Yunnan province.
Turkey also has 10 volcanoes. Examples include Mount Erciyes as well as Mount Ararat and Mount Nemrut, which is known for its ancient ruins.
Costa Rica in Central America has 10 volcanoes including the Arenal volcano, the Poás volcano, and the Irazú volcano.
Yemen has 11 volcanoes. Examples include the Jabal al-Tair (also known as the Zubair Islands) as well as the volcanic fields Harrat Ash Shajarah and the Harrat al-Shaqah.
Italy makes the list with 13 volcanoes including Mount Etna, which you can find on the east coast of Sicily. Mount Vesuvius and Stromboli, a volcanic island off the northern coast of Sicily, are other famous examples.
Portugal, with its associated territories, has 13 volcanoes, including São Jorge and Pico, both located in the Azores.
The United Kingdom and its overseas territories boast 14 volcanoes. This includes the Saunders volcano located in the Sandwich Islands.
In South America, you'll find Colombia and its 14 volcanoes. Included are Nevado del Ruiz, located in the Andes Mountains, Galeras, located in southern Colombia, and Puracé, located in southwestern Colombia.
Peru has 16 volcanoes including the Misti, Ubinas, and the Sabancaya.
Nicaragua, located in Central America, has 17 volcanoes. There you'll find the Masaya volcano, located near the city of Masaya, and Cerro Negro, a young and active volcano.
Vanuatu is an island nation in Oceania and it has 17 volcanoes including Mount Yasar, Manaro Voui, and the Ambrym volcano.
France and its overseas territories have 19 volcanoes. Included are Mount Pelée located on the island of Martinique, La Soufrière on the island of Guadeloupe, and Piton de la Fournaise on the island of Réunion.
El Salvador has 20 volcanoes. Here you'll find the Izalco volcano, which is known as the "Lighthouse of the Pacific."
Kenya, in East Africa, has 21 volcanoes, including Mount Kenya, the second-highest mountain in Africa, and Ol Doinyo Lengai, known for its unique carbonatite lava.
Tonga has 21 volcanoes, including one known as the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai, which is famous for its 2022 eruption.
Guatemala, in Central America, has 23 volcanoes including Pacaya volcano, an active volcano near Guatemala City, and Fuego volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Central America.
Canada has 24 volcanoes. Included in this count are Mount Edziza and Mount Meager.
Located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, New Zealand has 24 volcanoes. Here you'll find Mount Ruapehu which is an active volcano on the North Island, Mount Tongariro, another active volcano on the North Island, and White Island, an active volcano in the Bay of Plenty.
In Argentina, you'll find 34 volcanoes including the Copahue and the Llullaillaco, one of the highest active volcanoes in the world.
Iceland is home to 35 volcanoes. In 2010 the Eyjafjallajökull erupted and disrupted air travel across Europe. You'll also find the Katla and Hekla here.
Ecuador has 36 volcanoes including the famous Cotopaxi, the Tunhurahua, and the Chimborazo.
Mexico has 38 volcanoes. Included in this count are the Popocatépetl, an active volcano near Mexico City, Pico de Orizaba, the highest mountain in Mexico, and the Colima (Volcán de Fuego), a highly active volcano.
The Phillippines in Southeast Asia has 38 volcanoes including the Mayon volcano, the Taal volcano, located on an island within a lake, and the Pinatubo, famous for its major eruption in 1991.
Papua New Guinea has 46 volcanoes. They include Mount Tavrvur, Ulawun volcano, and the Manam volcano.
Ethiopia, located in the East African Rift Valley, has 52 volcanoes, including Erta Ale, known for its persistent lava lake, Dabbahu, which created a new rift during its 2005 eruption, and the Shala.
Chile has 91 volcanoes. In Chile, you'll find Villarrica, Calbuco, famous for its explosive eruptions, and Chaitén, which experienced a major eruption in 2008.
Russia, namely the Kamchatka Peninsula, is home to 117 volcanoes. Included are the Klyuchevskaya Sopka, the highest active volcano in Eurasia, and the Shiveluch, known for its frequent eruptions.
Indonesia has 120 volcanoes including Mount Merapi, Mount Sinabung, and Mount Krakatoa, which had a devastating eruption in 1883.
In Japan, you'll find 122 volcanoes. Namely, Mount Sakurajima, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and Mount Aso, a massive caldera with active vents.
In the United States, there are 165 volcanoes. Iconic examples include Mount Helens, known for its explosive 1980 eruption.
