In 2010, Crippen took part in the FINA Marathon Swim World Series in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. At the end of the race, Crippen didn't appear, and after a frantic search, divers found his body under the water. Prior complaints of feeling unwell and heat exhaustion are believed to have resulted in Crippen's death.
