What are the origins of this fun-filled festive custom?
Democrats want an active federal government, but they are divided when it comes to its size. The numbers are, however, very balanced, with 49% favoring a smaller government that provides fewer services.
A very similar percentage of Democratic voters (48%) would prefer a bigger government that provides more services.
The percentage of Democratic voters who prefer a bigger government with more services has increased from 59% in 2015 to 74% in 2024.
Hostility has increased in the last few decades. Currently, 55% of Democrats view the Republican Party very unfavorably. The percentage three decades ago was 17%.
The majority of Democrats (76%) want the government to do more to solve problems.
Among US voters overall, 63% say abortion should be legal in all or most cases. This is an increase of four points since 2021.
A large percentage of Democrat voters (73%) say medication abortion should be legal. Only 8% say it should be illegal, and 19% said they are not sure.
The vast majority (92%) of Democratic voters have an unfavorable opinion of presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The ratings of approval of the Supreme Court among Democratic voters is at its lowest in the last 30 years. Only 24% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of the Supreme Court.
The percentage of Democratic voters who say abortion should be legal has increased from 65% in 2014 to 85% in 2024.
Among Democratic voters who dislike Trump, 78% view him “very unfavorably.”

A smaller percentage (23%) believe that the government is doing too many things. According to these voters, those things should be dealt with by individuals and businesses, without the interference of the government.
Only 35% of Democratic voters claim to trust the federal government most of the time. Republicans are even more weary of the government, with only 11% saying they trust the government.
So is climate change, and the ability of parties to work together. Republicans, on the other hand, are less likely to view the aforementioned concerns as major problems.
The level of trust of Democratic voters in the federal government has decreased significantly since the 1970s.
The Democrats’ views on the Supreme Court has grown increasingly negative, especially after the Roe v. Wade decision in 2022.
The survey also found affordability of health care to be a major concern among Democratic voters.
The majority of Democratic voters (66%) claim to be “extremely” motivated to vote in this year’s presidential election.
According to a May 2024 survey, 68% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents are worried about gun violence in the country.
This is actually 10 points higher than it was in early July. Republicans are also more excited about voting in this year’s presidential election. Their motivation grew from 59% in July to 68% at present.
Today, Kamala Harris has 23 more percentage points among Democratic voters than Joe Biden.
The majority of White Democratic voters in the 1990s didn’t have a four-year college degree. Today, only 26% don’t have a college education.
While Christian still make up a large percentage of Democratic voters, 46% of them don’t identify as Christian.
The number of Democratic voters who are religiously unaffiliated increased significantly in the last few years. The percentage went from 18% in 2008 to 38% in 2024.
Before he quit the race for the White House, Joe Biden had 79% of Democratic voters rooting for him. But only 35% said they supported him strongly.
Nearly half (45%) of Democratic voters have at least a bachelor’s degree. That number was just 22% in 1996.
