One in four millennials moved to a different city in 2022. But just where were these millennials moving to most? One study set out to determine the most popular relocation destinations for this age group. Millennials were defined as people aged 25 to 44, in line with U.S. Census Bureau data for 268 cities. The cities they chose, largely secondary, were then ranked by the highest percentage of the population represented by newly-transplanted millennials.

New millennials made up 9.76% of the population of Washington D.C. in 2022. Over 64,000 millennials decided to make Washington their home that year.

Ample job opportunities, good salary levels, and a plethora of free activities and events could be an attractive prospect to millennials who arrive in their droves to the city.

Millennials made up 29.85% of the population in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2022, with 13,459 moving to the city that year.

Housing, utilities, and everyday expenses are generally more affordable compared to primary cities in the US, while the relaxed vibe and small-town charm keeps millennials coming.

Millennials make up a sizeable chunk of the population size in Alexandria, Virginia, where 39.75% of inhabitants are part of this demographic.

Located on the Potomac river and close to Washington, D.C., Alexandria offers millennials modern amenities, proximity to a major career and job hub, and a variety of housing options.

New millennials represented 10.05% of the overall population of Boulder, Colorado, in 2022, while the total millennials in the city accounted for 27.62% of the city's inhabitants.

A health-focused culture, lots of outdoor recreation spots, open green spaces, education facilities, as well as good career opportunities, safety, proximity to nearby Denver, and a strong economy make Boulder popular.

Arriving millennials made up 10.45% of Savannah's population in 2022. The city's unique blend of old world charm and modern style attracted 15,303 new millennials.

Beautiful architecture, a vibrant culture, and frequently voted one of the world's friendliest cities, it's not difficult to understand why millennials are flocking to Savannah.

Sandy Springs kicks off the top 10, with new millennials representing 10.5% of the total population. Some 11,210 millennials moved there in 2022. The city also had the highest median age in the top 10, at 39.5 years.

Lots of coffee shops, restaurants, and parks give Sandy Springs a suburban/urban feel, with the city attracting a lot of left-leaning families and young professionals.

Austin drew in 103,461 millennials in 2022, making up 10.7% of its population. The city's median age is 34.7 years.

Quality of life, a thriving job market, affordability, and a dynamic and vibrant arts scene could be some of the reasons millennials are attracted to Austin.

Killeen attracted 16,853 millennials, making up 10.8% of its population. The median age in Killeen was 30.4 years, the second-lowest in the top 10.

There's a vibrant community in Killeen. Affordability, opportunities for outdoor recreation, and safety make it a family-friendly place to relocate.

Newly moved-in millennials accounted for 11.3% of the population in Bellevue, Washington, with 17,131 making the city their new home. Bellevue's median age, one of the highest on the list, is 38.9 years.

Located on the eastern shore of Lake Washington, Bellevue is an easy commute to Seattle, with natural beauty, a strong economy, and a high quality of life.

Around 11.5% of Arlington's residents are new millennials. A large number—26,699, to be exact—of millennials moved to the city in 2022.

Bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks are plentiful in Arlington, which is a highly-sought after location for those who want to be within commuting distance of Washington D.C.

Denver saw an influx of 85,390 millennials, representing 12.1% of its population. The median age citywide is 35.4 years.

Denver has a booming economy, with a high average starting salary. It's also close to nature, and has a vibrant nightlife scene.

Sunnyvale was also a top choice for millennials, with 12.5% of its population comprising newly moved-in young adults. The number of millennials that moved to this Silicon Valley city was 18,862 in 2022, and the median age in the city was 35.9 years.

The Bay Area offers outdoor beauty, a relaxed vibe, and relative safety, while boasting a Mediterranean climate. And, of course, numerous tech companies nearby provide ample, highly-paid job opportunities.

Seattle became home to a large number of millennials, with new ones making up 12.5% of the city's population, or 93,302 millennials moving in. The city's median age is 36 years.

Tech professionals find plenty of opportunities in Seattle, and there are no shortage of places to get a good cup of coffee!

Santa Clara was a close second, attracting millennials that constituted approximately 13.3% of its population. The city welcomed 16,661 millennials, with the median age in the city being 35 years.

A diverse cultural scene, universities, beautiful weather, and world-renowned tech companies draw newbies to Santa Clara each year.

In 2022, Cambridge saw a significant influx of millennials, with nearly 14.7% of its population being newcomers from this generation, totaling around 17,275 individuals. The city's median age stood at 29.9 years.

Home to prestigious universities Harvard and MIT, Cambridge has an excellent quality of life and a rich history waiting to be explored.
