Nick Cannon has found success in various areas of showbiz, but he hopes his children can find more interesting challenges than following the obvious (and easier) career path.
If it was up to Emily Blunt, she’d keep her kids oblivious to her parents’ jobs for as long as possible. "I don't want my kids to feel any more important or special or that there's a glare on them any more than other kids. If they can remain oblivious for the longest time, I'd be thrilled,” she said.
Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren welcomed their first daughter, Honor, in 2008. By then Alba expressed her wish for her daughter to focus on education and get to college, after which she can do whatever she wants.
But deep down, Cannon is okay with whatever career path his kids choose. "I hope I can be that dad on the sidelines somewhere rooting for them. But again, if they want to be accountants or equestrians, I don't care."

Alba’s tune didn’t change with the birth of her daughter Haven in 2011. "When they're done with college, if they want to get into the arts, that's fine. I think you will be a better artist the more life experiences you have, but I wouldn't encourage them to work in this type of environment as children." The same probably applies to the couple’s youngest child, Hayes Alba Warren, born in 2017.
Emily Blunt and John Krasinski share two daughters, Hazel (pictured) and Violet. While both parents are accomplished actors, Blunt wouldn’t want to see their kids in Hollywood, because “it’s a hard industry, and it can be very disappointing.”
"As long as they're just kids, I'll support whatever they want but they'll have to really, really want it. They have to prove that they want it," she added.
Fellow actors Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof welcomed their first child, Satyana, in 2009. Ever since, Hannigan has confessed that she wanted her kid to have a normal childhood. Hannigan also said that if her daughter wanted to go into showbiz as an adult, that she’d support her.
The birth of their second daughter, Keeva, in 2012, seemed to have made her a bit more flexible in this regard. "I certainly want them to be children for as long as they have, but they love going to premieres and stuff like that," she said.
Driver went as far as saying that parents who put their kids in showbiz have a “certain level of desperation.”
The actress is also a strong advocate for education. Driver said that education is a better route into acting for a child than learning on a set—a place she doesn't think is good for a kid.
"I would try to steer my daughters away from acting. Women are in a different business than we are. It is just brutal for women. For us, the roles get really good at 40 and beyond. And that's really when you start doing your best work," he said.
The movie star and his wife Luciana Barroso are parents to Isabela, Alexia, Gia, and Stella. Damon doesn’t think Hollywood is a good place for women, so he’d rather have their daughters doing something else.
Minnie Driver’s son, Henry, was born in 2008, but she never really showed any desire for him to follow her career path. "I'm not really for the whole kids in show business thing," she said.
It’s safe to say that Drew Barrymore knows a thing or two about being a child star. And probably because of that, she doesn't want her daughters Frankie and Olive to follow in her footsteps.
"I'm not going to let them be kid actors. That's so not their journey. If they want to be actors [later] in life, I would be supportive of it. Can you imagine me being [a] mom [who is] pushing her kids out there? That's not going to happen," said Barrymore.
Nick Cannon loves to see his kids try sports “because it has nothing to do with anything. It literally is however much work you put in, how hard you go, that's how you'll succeed in that space.”
Christina Applegate is a successful actress, and while she isn't completely opposed to the idea of her daughter Sadie Grace becoming one, she certainly doesn’t want her to be a child actor.
"She can study acting until she's 18, and then if she wants to have that as a job, then she has the right to make that decision. But under my roof, you train, and you become the best that you can be," said Applegate.
Single dad Channing Tatum doesn’t want his daughter Everly to follow in his footsteps. The ‘Magic Mike’ actor and his ex, actress Jenna Dewan, seem to be on the same page on this matter. "Jenna and I, we've always met eye to eye on this one. It's pretty tough to be a child actor or artist,” said Tatum.
“I also believe that if you really want to be a beautiful artist, you have to go live a real life. And I think kids in Hollywood, in general, there's a lot of things that are standing in the way to living a very normal life in the world," he added.
"We're hoping, I think, that the kids don't become actors. We want them to be happy and do whatever they're interested in, but I think we're hoping to show them so many other ideas and other options that they won't want to act," she said.
"It's very hard on people and I don't want them to have that pressure. I'm tough, I can handle it, but I wouldn't want to put someone I love [through] that,” he added.
Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have six children together. When the coupe were still married, in 2014, Jolie was pretty clear about how they viewed their children getting involved in acting.
Instead, the kids have expressed interest in their mom’s humanitarian work, which might come as a relief for Jolie. "None of my kids want to be actors. [They're into] business, humanitarian affairs, things like that," confirmed the actress.
Jason Momoa has two children with ex-wife Lisa Bonet. Momoa is familiar with being under the spotlight, but apparently doesn’t want the same for his kids Lola and Nakoa-Wolf.
The actor revealed in an interview that one of his children expressed an interest in acting (he didn’t reveal which one), but Jason Momoa is not very happy about it. “I'll try my d******** to keep 'em out of it. I love storytelling, I love theatrical things, I like directing and filmmaking, but I just want them to, you know, really to go for other things," he said.
When asked about the possibility of her son Luca catching the acting bug, Duff replied: "I don't think there's a way to stop it. I think kids know what they want. I just pray to God that's not what he wants."
The Hollywood star was asked in an interview what he thought of his daughter Lily-Rose or his son Jack (both of whom he shares with French actress Vanessa Paradis) getting into the entertainment industry. His response? "I'd be horrified. Once you've sort of been on the campus grounds for as long as any of us have, you have a great understanding of the amount of rejection that is involved initially and right on through."
Brooke Shields was a child star herself, so her hope is that her kids don't become actors or models. When asked about it, Shields said: "For their sake, I hope they don't. There's a lot of pressure. As long as they get an education, they can do whatever they want. If they need my help, I'll try, but I hope they find other interests."
