Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are organisms whose genetic makeup has been genetically modified, generally for a commercial benefit. We speak about GMOs most often in the context of food; in recent years, there has been a rise in the number of GM foods lining supermarket shelves.
Although food products are often genetically modified to increase yield, there is no evidence that the process actually has this effect. Coupled with the fact that the safety of GMOs is still unknown, more and more people are opting out of the GMO trend.
