We have been burying our dead and performing funerary rituals for millennia. It's just something humans do, so it's hard to imagine not knowing where a loved one is buried. Many famous people, however, do not always have marked graves. And in some cases where they did get a tombstone, it's not quite in the location they are buried.

The 'Oh, Pretty Woman' singer died of a heart attack at the age of 52 and was buried in a Los Angeles cemetery. This was supposed to be a temporary solution, however, so his family never really marked his gravesite with a tombstone.

Orbison's place of burial is the dead-star-studded Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park. Though his grave is unmarked. "It's definitely not intentional. It's not like we don't want people going by there or whatever. It's been put to the back burner for so long," explained his son, Alex.

The actor is best known for playing General George C. Patton in 'Patton' (1970). Scott received an Oscar for his role, but refused to attend the Academy Awards to accept it.

George C. Scott passed away in 1999 and is buried somewhere at the Pierce Bros Westwood Village Memorial Park in Westwood, California.

Like Orbison and other stars, the famous musician's final resting place is also Westwood Memorial in LA. His grave is also unmarked.

It is unknown why Zappa's grave is unmarked, but when asked in an interview how he would like to be remembered, the musician replied: "It's not important to even be remembered."

Siri won't tell you the location of the Apple co-founder's grave. Well, it will probably point you to Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto, California. But that's it.

Despite his public persona, Jobs liked his privacy, and perhaps anticipating groups of mourners with iPhone in their hands, he chose to rest in a more quiet place. We just don't know where.

You probably remember the actor best for his role in 'The Blues Brothers' (1980). Belushi was indeed known for partying hard, so when he died fans would hang around his grave at Abel Hill Cemetery, in Chilmark, Massachusetts, and they would drink 'with him.'

The headstone was moved to a different part of the cemetery, but reportedly John Belushi is not actually buried there. The actor's body is believed to have stayed in Abel Hill Cemetery, but only his loved ones know exactly where.

The actor, best known for his role as Herman Munster in 'The Munsters' (1964–1966), is also buried in an unmarked grave.

Fred Gwynne's remains are somewhere in Sandy Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Finksburg, Maryland.

You probably recognize the American radio personality's voice from the Scooby-Doo franchise. Kasem was the first actor to voice Norville "Shaggy" Rogers.

Reportedly, his wife requested for him to be buried in an unmarked grave in Oslo, Norway.

The child star is known for numerous Disney movies, including 'Peter Pan' (1953). Unfortunately, Driscoll went down the path of addiction and died in 1968, aged 31.

Bobby Driscoll's body was found in a New York tenement and buried in an unmarked grave on Hart Island.

The Hollywood star, particularly known for Westerns and war movies, left us in 1979. Wayne's grave remained unmarked for almost 20 years, until 1998.

Those wishing to pay tribute to John Wayne can do so at Pacific View Memorial Park, in Newport Beach, California.

The iconic blues singer's grave was unmarked for more than 30 years, until Janis Joplin purchased a tombstone for her in 1970.

Bessie Smith's place of burial is Mount Lawn Cemetery in Darby Township, Pennsylvania.

One of the greatest composers ever is also buried in an unmarked grave. Though the reason for Mozart not having a tombstone is simple: he was buried in a shared plot. This means that once enough time has passed, the remains are moved so that the land can be used to bury someone else.

There is a grave at Friedhof Wien St. Marx (Friedhofspark) in Vienna, Austria, but it is unlikely that Mozart's remains are under it.

Most people would agree that it's probably a good thing that Hitler's tomb is unmarked. Though for historical reasons, and indeed to avoid conspiracy theories that he actually survived and fled Germany, one could argue that a known place of burial could have its benefits.

Reportedly, Hitler and his partner Eva Braun's bodies were burned, buried, and then moved a few times. Their bones were later exhumed and cremated, leaving no trace of the dictator to be found anywhere on Earth.

Caesar Augustus, aka Octavian, defeated the ruler of Egypt and her famous Roman lover, Mark Antony, after which they both reportedly took their own lives.

It's unknown whether a secret place of burial was chosen by Cleopatra and Mark Antony, or if Octavian simply didn't marked the grave of his enemies so that they could be forgotten. Their place of burial still remains unknown to this day.

The famous and fierce father of the Mongol Empire is an important figure in history books. But despite the fame and fortune while alive, Khan reportedly wanted a private place of rest.

How did he achieve that? Well, by instructing his soldiers to kill everyone who was present at his funeral and those who built the tomb. Yikes!

In 2015, the Saudi king was buried in an unmarked grave because his faith does not allow for his burial site to become a place of veneration.

Though it seems that the king was loved enough for crowds of mourners to ignore the rules and flock to the Al Oud cemetery in Riyadh after his funeral.
