Celebrities who are friends with their partner’s ex
Katy Perry opens up about friendship with fiancé Orlando Bloom's ex Miranda Kerr at G'Day USA Arts Gala
CELEBRITY Relationships
It's not easy to be friends with your ex after a breakup or divorce. The old hurts and resentments can trip you up when you see them, and you just end up rehashing old arguments. What's even more difficult is to maintain a friendship with your ex and their new partner! It's weird to see your ex falling in love with someone new, and treating them the way they used to treat you.
Despite all of these difficulties, many celebrities have managed to pull it off. In many cases, children are the uniting factor. If you've got to stay in each other's lives because of shared children, then you might as well make the best of it! From joint vacations to professional collaborations, many stars show us how a modern family really looks.
Katy Perry and Miranda Kerr are great examples of that, as the singer is currently engaged to the model's ex-husband Orlando Bloom, and yet the women looked like close friends on the red carpet of the G'Day USA Arts Gala in Los Angeles on January 28. That night, Kerr actually received the Excellence in the Arts award from Perry, who took a moment to acknowledge how weird the situation might seem.
"Some of you might be confused about why I'm introducing Miranda. That doesn't play into the antiquated narrative of ex-wives and new wives," Perry told the audience, per People. "And yes, it's true, most of the media would like to see us mud wrestle, including [her husband] Evan [Spiegel], but we are here to lead by love because Miranda is love," she continued. "And as a lot of you know, love comes in many family iterations."
Perry praised Kerr for "living her truth every day with grace and beauty," and being so "dedicated to her three beautiful boys, her partner, and that smoking hot bod." She added, "I'm so grateful for our modern blended family. It's like I gained another sister, one with whom I usually sidebar from the main family chat and agree with."
