Questions are still being asked about the entertainer's demise
"I've done that kind of movie—'Blade Runner' really is a comic strip when you think about it, it's a dark story told in an unreal world. You could almost put Batman or Superman in that world, that atmosphere, except I'd have a f****ng good story, as opposed to no story," added the director.
The 'Alien' (1979) director has turned down several offers to work on superhero movies over the years. "Superhero movies are not my kind of thing -- that's why I've never really done one. [I've been asked] several times, but I can't believe in the thin, gossamer tightrope of the non-reality of the situation of the superhero," he said.
The Hollywood heavyweight director not only agrees with Martin Scorsese when it comes to Marvel movies, but he goes even further in dissing them.
"Martin was kind when he said it’s not cinema. He didn’t say it’s despicable, which I just say it is."
It's hard to believe that the actor who's regarded by many as the best Batman doesn't like superhero movies. But it turns out comic book movies are not really his thing.
"I’ve not seen any of the Avengers films or any of those films at all. I hear they’re very good, but I’m quite happy just hearing they’re very good," said Bale.
It looks like we're not seeing the British action movie star in a spandex suit any time soon. Because, well, it's just too easy. "A lot of the modern sort of action movies I see, you know Marvel sort of things, I just think any guy can do it," he said.
"I have no ambition... I mean I can take my grandma and put here in a cape and they’ll have stunt doubles come in and do all the action. Anybody can do it. They are relying on green screen and 200 million dollar budgets. It's all CGI created. So to me that is not authentic. I'm inspired by all old real star—guys that can really do their thing," the actor added.
"How many times can you say ‘you’re wearing a funny costume’ with the tights and stuff? That’s been going on for 20 years now," said Burton.
The actor played Red Skull in 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (2011), but it's unlikely we'll see him in a superhero movie again.
But it looks like the actor is on a mission to make the genre better. He's starring in the upcoming Marvel TV series 'Moon Knight.' "You can't pretend you don't live in the time period that you live in. You have to try to make your time period better," he stated.
"Now we have the problem that they tell us 'Logan' is a great movie. Well, it's a great superhero movie. It still involves people in tights with metal coming out of their hands... Big business wants you to think that this is a great film because they wanna make money off of it," said the actor about the 2017 superhero film starring Hugh Jackman.
"A culture that thinks that comic books and comic book movies are profound meditations on the human condition is a dumb culture. And for people to get mad at that just proves my point," Maher added.

Maher went as far as saying that Hollywood "ruined America" with its superhero movies. "The problem is that superhero movies imprint this mindset that we are not masters of our own destiny."
Aniston added that she isn't "really that interested in living in a green screen."
The 'Friends' star opened up about the state of Hollywood. "You're seeing what's available out there and it's just diminishing and diminishing in terms of, it's big Marvel movies, or things that I'm not just asked to do."
"Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn't the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being," said Scorsese.
The famous director said that he tried to watch MCU movies, but that they were not cinema.
While the British actor is a self-confessed sci-fi fan, he thinks comic book movies are "kind of dumbing down in a way, because it's taking our focus away from real-world issues."
"It’s lazy and average male filmmaking. If it’s okay, it’s considered good, if it’s good it’s great and the reality is no thinking person agrees. I'd like to petition for other stories to be added to the slate. Where are the human stories? I don't want green goblins and tight outfits. I want intelligence, daring, work that drives society forward. I want a mirror, not every cliché regurgitated ad nauseum," she added.
The actress took to Instagram to express her opinion about superhero movies, saying that "what’s wrong with superhero movies is that they lack complexity, story development, character development [and] freedom of thought."
The actor is known for having played Dr. Jonathan Crane (aka Scarecrow) in 'The Dark Knight' trilogy, but he's not a fan of Marvel movies.
"Have they exhausted every single comic book ever? I don't know where they're coming from anymore. It was a different time back when we made 'Batman Begins,'" Murphy said. "My kids love the Marvel movies, but I don't know. I don't watch them," he added.
The Oscar-winning actress has no interest in making "200 million dollar movies about superheroes."
"It looks like garbage to me. It looks like a bad video game. I'm embarrassed for those people. I'm embarrassed for Scarlett! I'm sure she got paid five, seven million bucks, but I'm embarrassed for her. I don't want to be in those movies. I really don't," said Dorff about 'Black Widow' (2021).
The actor starred in 'Blade' (1998), which was based on a Marvel character, but he seems to dislike the current movies being done today.
"Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking—you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth. It’s ruining the viewing habits of the American population and then ultimately the rest of the world," said Foster.
The British actress turned down the role of Black Widow, which was then offered to Scarlett Johansson. Blunt simply is not a fan of comic book movies.
"I don't like them. I really don't. It's been exhausted. We are inundated—it's not only all the movies, it's the endless TV shows as well [...] In general, I don't race to see superhero movies. They leave me feeling a bit cold, I can't explain it," said Blunt.
"But what about 'Batman'?" you might be asking yourself. Well, that was a long time ago, and it seems that the director has had enough of superhero movies.
The award-winning actor and director famously called the DC movie 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' (2016) "a piece of s***."
"I'm not interested in the stuff. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic book superheroes is? Real superheroes didn't wear spandex," said Gibson.
"It’s not the sort of film I seek out and really am excited by. As an actor, to do all sorts of different films is great. It stretches you in different ways. But, I increasingly like to go back to what I used to always do, which is to get involved with projects that I really have a personal affiliation with," said Weaving.
