When the 'Two and a Half Men' actor turned up for jury duty in 2013 he told TMZ that he was hoping for something like a "multiple homicide case, something really interesting."

For some people the idea of being called for jury duty is an exciting opportunity to play a part in the democratic administration of justice. For others, the thought of being summoned is enough to fill them with dread.

Unfortunately for people in the latter group, being called for duty is something everyone has to deal with, celebrities included.

It seems the 2014 case was not the first time the actor was summoned, either. There are reports that he was also called in 2003 and then again in 2007.

In 2015 actress Anna Kendrick tweeted: "Night 3 of calling in for jury duty…thought I was off the hook, but I’ve got a date with justice…"

Things didn't turn out as hoped: the matter of the case remains unclear, but we do know that Sheen was excused by 3 pm and given the standard proof of completion certificate.

In 2014 Brad Pitt turned up for jury duty at the Los Angeles Criminal Court. According to the Daily Mail, he wanted to serve but was dismissed for being "too distracting."

A spokesperson said: "He recognizes how vital jury service is to our judicial system - and that with the great privileges of being a citizen in America and having the right to vote come important responsibilities like this one."

Hadid made it through the first round of questioning but was then dismissed on the grounds that she is friends with Cara Delevingne, one of Weinstein's 105 female accusers.

In August 2015 the former president of the United States showed up for jury selection in Dallas. Ultimately, however, he wasn't chosen to serve.

In January 2020 model Gigi Hadid was called to the Manhattan Supreme Court to be questioned as a potential juror for the trial of former Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein.

She was apparently called, but as she and the other jurors were going into the courtroom the case was settled, which she tweeted she "didn't know was a thing."

When Clarkson's case was settled, she was asked instead to bear witness to a pair of eighteen year olds tying the knot. She tweeted, "#poordecisionpartyfortwo."

According to the same TMZ report, the court case had been resolved by 2:30 pm the same afternoon, and all jurors including Lopez were free to go home.

In July 2014 Madonna showed up to fulfill her civic duty, but she was dismissed after just two hours, at least partly because she would cause too much of a distraction.

Singer Kelly Clarkson reportedly showed up for jury duty after seeing Anna Kendrick's tweets. She said that her experience of the process was exactly the same, except for one key difference.

She may have only been at the courthouse a couple of hours, but she had enough time to post a picture of a courthouse doorknob with the caption "Serving my country!"

In 2007 J-Lo spent a morning at the Beverly Hills Courthouse as a prospective juror. According to TMZ she spent most of the time in the jury room texting friends.

She later told Marie Claire: "I was so outraged by the character assassination! I have served so many times, I was asked to come speak at Jury Appreciation Day!"

In the end she was chosen and served on a jury that decided to convict the defendant of first-degree murder. Afterwards she told Today that the conviction felt sad.

There are rumors that 'Sex and the City' actress SJP is reluctant to serve and tries to get out of it, despite the fact that she showed up to do her duty in 2011.

In 2004 Oprah was chosen to serve on the jury in a Chicago murder trial. Before being chosen she reportedly said: "I'm hoping it won't take longer than a week because I've got shows to do."

Tom Hanks actually made it onto the bench as a juror in a domestic violence case in LA, and the presence of the 'Forrest Gump' actor certainly didn't go unnoticed.

The '40-Year-Old Virgin' actor was selected to serve on a civil jury in an employment dispute back in 2008.

When a member of the LA City Attorney's Office went up to Hanks and thanked him for his service, the defense attorneys asked for and were granted a mistrial.

Swift apparently asked not to serve because she was involved in a simultaneous civil suit that also involved sexual assault. She offered to serve as juror on a different case instead.

'Kill Bill' actress Uma Thurman was called to serve as a juror on a misdemeanor case in 2008. She was not selected, but afterwards she told David Letterman she had been quite excited.

According to a report by TMZ, both parties in the proceeding were Korean and non-English speaking. This meant that an interpreter was present for the whole trial.

She also said she was nervous, because if she had been selected and it had been a long case, that would have caused problems when it came to scheduling.

In 2016 the 'Love Story' singer was considered as a potential juror for an aggravated  r a p e  and kidnapping case in Nashville. She was, however, dismissed.

A spokesperson for Mr. Trump said that the previous summons had been sent to the wrong address, and that he was happy to serve.

The former president of the United States served as a juror in 2015. Prior to this he had been summoned five times and racked up a US$250 fine.
