Female stars dazzling in stripes
Who's wearing lines and bands of color and tone?
CELEBRITY Striped
The stripe is a popular pattern commonly seen on all sorts of garments. Bold and striking in its appearance, stripes have been used in clothing for hundreds of years. In medieval times, however, only prisoners, criminals, and hangmen were seen wearing stripes, the pattern having a generally negative symbolism in Western culture. In fact, apparel featuring the pattern was known as the "Devil's Cloth."
In the 1950s, movie stars frequently began incorporating stripes into their wardrobe. During the ’60s and ’70s, more and more people started to wear striped shirts as the garment was seen as a symbol of rebellion.
Today, the stripe is a favorite with celebrities and with women especially, who promote the conspicuous pattern through casual wear, or as part of an eye-catching stage outfit.
