Corduroy makes its celebrity comeback
Vogue calls it "the world's most unsexy fabric"
FASHION Celebrity style
The origins of corduroy are mixed, with some claiming it got its name from the French phrase "corde du roi," which translates to "king's cord,” while others believe it has English origins, combining “cord” in reference to the ridges, and “duroy,” which was an 18th-century wool fabric for the working class. As such, the ridged, warm fabric with a soft, almost velvety surface has functioned as both a durable fabric in the colder weather, as well as a dazzling number under the spotlight.
